On the last day of term Penketh proudly came together to show their support to raise money for Turkey – Syria Earthquake appeal with an own clothes day.
Everyone who contributed donated £1 each and we raised an amazing £847.00! It was incredibly important to our pupils and staff to show support to such a worthy cause after the recent tragic events in previous weeks.
The Disasters Emergency Committee brings together 15 leading UK aid charities, raising funds to respond to overseas disasters quickly and effectively. More than 54,000 buildings, including hospitals and schools, have been destroyed or damaged. People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions.
DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders providing urgent aid. Following the search and rescue operation, immediate priorities are access to healthcare, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heating in safe spaces, blankets, warm clothes, ensuring people have food and clean water.
Aid is getting through to survivors, despite the challenges of working in the affected region. 14 DEC charities and their local partners are working with locally-led relief efforts to provide medical treatment, shelter, winter survival kits and ensuring people have food and clean water.
Donations from the UK public are allowing DEC charities to scale up their humanitarian response, deliver lifesaving aid and support survivors both now and in the weeks and months ahead.
